Most disputes do not need a courtroom. But the other side has to believe you are ready for one. We prepare every file as if it will be argued, then use that strength to negotiate, mediate or litigate, whichever gets you the better result.

We set an objective with you, then open with the position best suited to it: a demand letter, a without-prejudice offer, or filing immediately.

Pleadings and discovery
Claims, defences, affidavits of records and questioning. This is where cases are won, and where we keep you informed at each step.

Resolution
Negotiated settlement, mediation, judicial dispute resolution, or trial. We do not stop until the matter is resolved.
Common questions
Civil Litigation: what people ask first
- How long does a civil claim take in Alberta?
- It depends entirely on complexity and on whether the other side engages. Some matters settle in weeks after a well-drafted demand; contested claims that proceed to trial can take years. We give you a realistic range at the first meeting rather than an optimistic one.
- Is it worth suing over a smaller amount?
- Sometimes yes, through the simplified procedures available for lower-value claims, and sometimes the honest answer is no. We will tell you when the cost of the fight is likely to exceed what you can recover.
- Do you handle files outside Calgary?
- We act throughout Alberta and, through our Regina office, in Saskatchewan.
